Our History
How it all started
My grandfather had eight brothers, and three of them decided, together with him, to create the Sociedade Agropecuária de Algoz.
They were dedicated to growing citrus fruits and raising cattle. In fact, it was two aunts and an uncle who built the house in 1940 and lived in it until they passed away.
I, on the other hand, was a “city girl” who during the summer holidays, used to go to my grandparents’ house, which was next to their house.
At that time, I used to run through the orchards while my uncle watered the trees.
Due to the heat, I spent most of the time inside the house, where my aunts prepared delicious snacks for me.
So I lived with them for many years and learned from an early age to also help my father in caring for the orchards.
Because he was so helpful to my uncles, my father ended up inheriting not only the orchards, but also the house where they lived.
Later, I inherited from my parents not only the house, but also some land, where later, after I graduated in Economics, I developed a project for the restoration of the house.
The project
The house was uninhabited and in ruins. The main façade was still preserved and the remaining part of the house could be restored in good condition.
The renovations and extensions were done with the aim of preserving the original structure while subtly modernising, taking into consideration its location and surrounding environment.
The project began in 2013. The entire original structure was eventually demolished, with only the facade wall remaining.
I rebuilt and extended the area of the house, creating a space that connects the past with a modernised approach.
The Quinta is located in the heart of an orange grove, in the Algarvian “barrocal” with south-facing orientation.
The architecture follows a vernacular style, maintaining the authenticity of the place.
Choosing the name of the Quinta was not an easy task. I wanted something that had a connection to the past. So I decided to form the name based on the names of these uncles who taught me so much.
I named it “I’s” after them, as the Quinta belonged to three of my grandfather’s eight siblings: Inácia Neves, Inácio Neves and Isabel Neves.
Currently, the I’s Farm has eight rooms and a space for events.
In addition, we offer our customers a variety of experiences as they walk through the orchard and taste the delicacies we prepare.
